Vande Bharat Express Trial Run Boosts J&K Rail Connectivity

In a remarkable development for Jammu and Kashmir's rail infrastructure, the Indian Railways successfully conducted the first trial run of the specially designed Vande Bharat Express train on Saturday.

The train journeyed from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) railway station to Srinagar, traversing iconic landmarks such as the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest rail bridge, and Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge.

A Warm Welcome During the Trial Run

The train made a brief halt at Jammu around 11:30 am, where it was greeted with enthusiastic slogans and appreciation for Indian Railways. It continued its journey to Budgam station, marking the successful completion of the trial run.

Launch of Commercial Operations

The commercial operation of this Vande Bharat Express is expected to commence soon, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to flag off its first journey from Katra. The official date of the ceremony is yet to be announced.

Special Features of the Train

This Vande Bharat Express has been uniquely designed to tackle the harsh winter conditions of Jammu and Kashmir. It boasts several climate-adaptive features:

• Advanced Heating Systems: Prevents freezing of water and bio-toilet tanks, ensures warm air for vacuum systems, and maintains efficient air-brake functioning even in sub-zero temperatures.

• Defrosting Technology: Embedded heating elements in the windshield defrost the driver’s lookout glass, ensuring clear visibility in extreme weather.

• Enhanced Passenger Comfort: Fully air-conditioned coaches, automatic plug doors, and mobile charging sockets are among the standard Vande Bharat amenities provided.

Symbol of Connectivity and Progress

Officials describe the train as a symbol of India’s commitment to bridging geographical and economic disparities. It marks a significant milestone in the completion of the 272-km USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link) project, which aims to connect the Kashmir Valley to the Indian Railways network.

The introduction of this advanced train underscores the government's efforts to enhance connectivity, promote regional integration, and provide state-of-the-art facilities to passengers in the region.
